Memorial recognized for stroke care

PAWTUCKET – The Stroke Center at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island has received the Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. This is the fifth consecutive year Memorial Hospital has been recognized by the American Heart Association for its standard of care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally-recognized guidelines.

According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is one of the leading causes of death and serious, long-term disability in the United States. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds; someone dies of a stroke every four minutes; and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.

Memorial’s doctors, nurses, therapists and other specialists work with patients and their families to design a plan of recovery tailored to each patient’s personal goals.
