Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence was recently named the recipient of a $40,000 grant from the MetLife Foundation.

“After-school programs are a proven strategy for putting young people on the path to success; however, far too many students lack access to high-quality programs during after-school hours,” said Dennis White, president and CEO of MetLife Foundation. “We are pleased to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs in recognizing the importance of these programs and helping them to expand their reach to create a larger impact.”

The funds will help the Boys & Girls Clubs expand its After School University program at its Chad Brown, Hartford Park and Manton Heights Public Housing Development sites.

Nicole Dufresne, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, said, “With more than 72 percent of our members coming from economically disadvantaged households, the expansion of our University program will enable us to reach more youth and strengthen the educational safety net for their future success in school and in the workplace.” •
