Mixing it up to keepits employees well

Much like areas of study it offers, diversification is key to Bryant University’s employee health and wellness initiative.

“We’ve been really trying to do things that are different, not just the same everyday things,” said human resource specialist Melanie Cluley.

It starts with the Smithfield institution’s Good Cent$ Wellness Program. Employees can earn reductions off their health premiums for completing regular checkups and taking part in various programs.

This year, the incentive is substantial: up to $300 off health care insurance premiums, and a one-time, $75 credit for participating spouses or partners. Roughly 200 employees were also surprised with Fitbit activity trackers for meeting their goals.

The school also offers access to a registered dietitian, launched a subscription to Farm Fresh Rhode Island’s Veggie Box, and held ice cream socials with the vegan company Like No Udder.

Efforts have paid off: Of 675 eligible employees, 221 participated in 2014, a gain on the 167 in 2013. n
