Modeling whole-health wellness internally

Karen Trudeau, human resources director for Fellowship Health Resources Inc., understands that you can’t pressure people to make a change if they’re not ready to make it themselves. That’s why since 2009 Fellowship has provided wellness benefits that “meet employees where they are.”

Trudeau said that as part of her job to strategize and implement wellness initiatives that use best practices and harness ever-evolving technology, she attends “as many wellness seminars as [she] possibly can.” In one, she noted, choice was the biggest bell-ringer. So Fellowship has responded by offering monetary incentives from its insurer for employees who qualify, including a new 500-point system that rewards employees for completing wellness activities of their choosing, such as online assessments, well exams and tobacco-free pledges.

“Healthier employees are happier employees,” Trudeau said, adding that health and wellness are of particular concern to the company based on its industry. “The behavioral health industry is changing [to become] a whole-health model.” n
