More than 1,000 Schwartz supporters walk for $100K

During the organization’s 24th annual walk fundraiser, the Schwartz Center for Children raised more than $100,000 thanks to the efforts of more than 1,000 walkers.
On Sept. 16, hundreds arrived in New Bedford to walk the 3.5-mile loop around Fort Taber.
The event’s largest fundraisers were Team Noah and Team Remax Right Choice.
Team Noah, a group of 150, was organized by the Fernandes family and named for Noah Fernandes, a student at the Schwartz Center. Together, the team brought in more than $15,000.
Team Remax Right Choice brought in more than $12,000, raising the funds in three weeks. Organized by Dawn and Ron Rusin, the pair said they were motivated to contribute after a recent visit to the center.
Schwartz Center CEO Mary Hodgson said her organization is grateful for everyone’s support.
“We are so touched by the support from our community,” she said. “We can’t say thank you enough.”
The Schwartz Center is a nonprofit organization serving children with a variety of developmental delays and disabilities from birth to age 22. Money raised will support Schwartz Center programs. •
