TAUNTON - Maureen Bryant, the president and CEO of Morton Hospital, stepped down from her post on Tuesday, The Herald News reported.
She is leaving to fill the same roles (president and CEO) of Provena Mercy Medical Center in Illinois.
Bryant made the announcement in an email to staff, saying that she will leave at the end of December and an interim operations manager will take over.
She took on the role of president and CEO in 2009 after 10 years as chief operating officer. She led the hospital through a period of “deep fiscal distress and eventual deliverance,” when it was bought by for-profit Steward Health Care Systems.
Steward agreed to eliminate the $30.5 million unfunded-liability debt and pay off $28 million in long-term debt. It also agreed to a 10-year capital commitment of $110 million, the publication said.
