EAST GREENWICH – A Master of Public Health program is now offered at New England Institute of Technology, Douglas H. Sherman, senior vice president and provost, said this week.
The MPH program uses an interdisciplinary approach to prepare professionals in public health science with a basis of management and leadership skills.
The program is a hybrid, including online and physical weekend classes. Like many of NEIT’s hybrid programs, it is designed to meet the needs of the working professional, helping them to balance school, work and personal life. Public health professionals will be introduced to emerging topics such as informatics, emergency preparedness, quality improvement and global health. Students will learn through lectures, lab work, materials review, seminar-style courses and assigned work.
The MPH program’s focus is on essential public health services and critical management principles with an emphasis on the leadership, budgeting, supervision and project management skills required to lead successful public health efforts and have a balanced view of public health theory.
The program can be completed in two years with two classes per quarter. Graduation requirements include a minimum of 48 academic credits, 120-hour field experience in a public health or similar institution along with a pre-determined project overseen by a preceptor, a prepared paper and an on-campus presentation.

Graduates of this program will be qualified to work in a variety of public health settings including local, state and federal public health agencies. Some employment opportunities for MPH graduates are community health organizations, foundations, coalitions or advocacy groups who work in support of chronic diseases and environmental concerns, allied entities like Medicaid, program evaluation agencies and health insurers, policy issues, college campuses, private non-profit agencies, and wellness and employee assistance programs.
