EAST GREENWICH – The New England Institute of Technology announced last month that it has received a one-year grant for nearly $120,000 for faculty development, from the Davis Educational Foundation.
The funds will be used to strengthen teaching methodologies to 20 NEIT members.
The project, titled “Faculty Development Symposium-Integrating the Liberal Arts across the Curriculum: Communication and Quantitative Reasoning for Lifelong Learning and Success,” will be implemented from this month through June 2013 and led by co-directors Robin Schutt, department chair of humanities/social science and Thomas Tibodeau, assistant provost and director of distributed learning.
“The trustees of the Davis Educational Foundation awarded this generous grant to New England Tech because they believe both organizations will gain new insight by supporting technical faculty in the teaching of liberal arts courses,” said Thomas F. Wylie, senior vice president and provost.
The Davis Educational Foundation, based in Maine, was founded by Stanton Davis, former chairman of Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc., and his wife, Elisabeth. •
