EAST GREENWICH – The New England Institute of Technology will offer a new associate degree in civil engineering technology that incorporates practical training, starting this fall.
The associate in science degree is a potential precursor to a bachelor of science degree program in civil engineering technology that is being developed at the private, nonprofit technical college now, said Douglas H. Sherman, NEIT’s senior vice president and provost.
A civil engineering technologist designs, engineers and helps supervise such projects as roads, bridges and environmental facilities.
Sherman said the program will prepare students to work as part of an engineering and construction team, focusing on such fundamentals as computer-aided drafting, structural analysis, design, surveying and soil mechanics. Students will also conduct field and laboratory testing and solve technical problems using computer applications, he said.
After obtaining the associate degree, students could choose to further their education with a bachelor’s degree or seek entry-level positions in civil engineering, surveying, materials testing or construction, Sherman added.
For more information about the new degree program, contact NEIT’s admissions office at 1-800-736-7744 or 401-467-7744, email NEITAdmissions@neit.edu or visit www.neit.edu.
More than 3,000 students are enrolled at NEIT, which is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges Inc.
