PROVIDENCE - AIDS Project Rhode Island has moved 20 employees and volunteers from 404 Wickenden St.in the Fox Point neighborhood to a former medical building at 9 Pleasant St. in the Mount Hope neighborhood.
“We’re excited about the move, which will give us much better space to care for the people we serve, and is easily available by bus too,” said Thomas Bertrand, AIDS Project Rhode Island’s executive director. “It truly provides AIDS Project Rhode Island with a signature location.”
A formal grand opening is being planned for the fall.
AIDS Project Rhode Island offers an array of services to prevent the spread of HIV, facilitate HIV testing, and care for people living with HIV/AIDS. Services include case management, emergency financial assistance, mental health counseling and psychiatric care, HIV testing and more. AIDS Project Rhode Island serves more than a thousand people a year.
The move is possible thanks to the building’s donation to Family Service of RI in 2011 by Bettina Crisafulli and Dr. Frederick Crisafulli and Dr. Renee Vogel and Dr. Benjamin Vogel.
AIDS Project Rhode Island is a division of Family Service of Rhode Island.
“Their extraordinarily generous donation means people living with HIV/AIDS will receive care in a more professional, convenient and spacious location,” said Margaret Holland McDuff, Family Service of Rhode Island’s CEO. “We deeply appreciate this wonderful gift, and are also thankful for the support of a number of funders for helping us prepare the space.”
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development provided funding, thanks to the efforts of Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee during his service in the U.S. Senate.Fiscal support was also received to adapt the space from the Champlin Foundations, the Roddy-Holden Foundation and the Washington Trust Charitable Foundation.
