PROVIDENCE – A new independent study has shown that The NanoSteel Co.’s steel can reduce weight of car structures without sacrificing safety or quality, the company announced.
The automotive light-weighting study was conducted by engineering firm EDAG Inc., and its results demonstrated that using NanoSteel’s advanced high strength steel can lead to a 30 percent reduction in a mass-market sedan’s body-in-white structure weight, or the weight of the steel body before glass and other components are added.
The study showed that cars using NanoSteel’s alloys continued to meet standards of crashworthiness, a measure of automotive safety.
“We are very encouraged by the results of our study with EDAG,” David Paratore, NanoSteel president and CEO, said in a statement. “The findings demonstrate that our alloys will address customer requirements across a significant proportion of structural parts.”
