PROVIDENCE – Narragansett Beer will be available this month in retro cans, like the one famously crushed by Captain Quint in the movie “Jaws,” the Boston Business Journal reported.
The special can release is timed to coincide with Discovery Channel’s annual “Shark Week” series, which started Sunday, Aug. 4, and actor Robert Shaw’s birthday, Aug. 9.
This is the second summer Narragansett has offered the “Jaws” tribute cans.
Shaw, who would have turned 86 this year, played the hardened captain of the Orca, the boat used to hunt the titular great white shark in the movie considered the first summer blockbuster. In a scene well-remembered by New Englanders, Quint downs a can of ’Gansett and crushes it in an attempt to intimidate biologist Matt Hooper, played by Richard Dreyfuss.
The cans will be available in 12, 18 and 30 packs this month.
