National Grid, Amica co-sponsor College Leadership

National Grid and Amica Insurance Co. are co-sponsoring the 2014 session of College Leadership Rhode Island, now underway, with 33 students from nine local colleges and universities participating.
Leadership Rhode Island, a nonprofit established in 1981, provides “leaders and emerging leaders with knowledge and access to resources which will enable them to positively affect their communities,” according to its mission statement. More than 1,600 alumni from the for-profit, nonprofit, and government sector across Rhode Island belong to the organization.
The program, part of a three-year commitment from the two companies, is in its second year.
“National Grid understands how important it is to invest in leadership and skill development opportunities like College Leadership Rhode Island,” said Timothy F. Horan, president of National Grid in Rhode Island and a Leadership Rhode Island 2001 graduate. “These opportunities help businesses like National Grid hire talented and well-versed employees. We are pleased to help College Leadership Rhode Island continue to offer no-cost opportunities to students.”
As campus leaders from local colleges and universities are selected to participate for free in College Leadership Rhode Island each year, students engage activities designed to develop their understanding of, and commitment to, the roles and responsibilities of leaders in nonprofit, for-profit and government agencies.
“Amica is proud to continue supporting Leadership Rhode Island and its goal of building a brighter future in this state,” said Robert A. DiMuccio, chairman, president and CEO of Amica Insurance and a Leadership Rhode Island 2001 graduate. “This program develops outstanding leaders, and we look forward to seeing their many professional contributions in the years ahead.”
The Rhode Island Commodores also provided College Leadership Rhode Island this year with money to launch a new pilot program: an additional semester for select program students who desire hands-on leadership experience through a newly developed nonprofit board fellowship, executive shadowing and civic engagement program.
