National Grid boosts support for City Year

Posted:

PROVIDENCE – National Grid now ranks as City Year Rhode Island’s largest team sponsor after a recent $300,000 donation.

The funds, to be disbursed to the organization during the next three years, will be used to support City Year participants who serve at Providence’s Gilbert Stuart Middle School.

City Year is an education-focused nonprofit organization that unites young leaders for a year of service. Participants make efforts to keep students in school and on track to graduate by improving attendance, behavior and academic performance.

“National Grid believes in the power of City Year’s programs and their ability to dramatically increase the urban graduation pipeline and transform the future for thousands of students,” said Timothy F. Horan, president of National Grid in Rhode Island. “We can think of no better investment than [supporting] the children, schools and communities where we live and work.”

The sponsorship also includes numerous volunteer opportunities for National Grid employees.
