Navigant’s Furtado tapped for national board

SMITHFIELD – Navigant Credit Union CEO and President Gary E. Furtado was elected to serve on the Credit Union National Association board of directors, the financial institution announced last week.
Credit Union National Association, popularly referred to as CUNA, is the country’s largest credit union trade association and peers in the business elect volunteer directors to its board, according to a Navigant press release.
Furtado, who’s served as the Smithfield credit union’s president for more than 27 years, has worked with Navigant for 37 years, which is today a $1.5 billion financial institution. His peers from CUNA District 1, including Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands elected him as a district board member.
CUNA represents about 7,000 credit unions nationwide, according to the release.
Navigant is Rhode Island’s oldest credit union celebrating 100 years of service in the Ocean State this year. It serves more than 65,000 members through 13 branches and is the second largest credit union in terms of total assets, according to PBN research.
