Navy, Commerce Corp. team to grow tech bizs

PROVIDENCE – The state will partner with the Navy to grow businesses working on undersea and naval technologies, The Associated Press reported.

The Navy said in August the Naval Undersea Warfare Center will assign an employee for two years to work in the R.I. Commerce Corporation offices. That employee will work to strengthen the contributions of the defense and ocean-technology sectors to the Rhode Island economy.

According to the AP, the joint defense-commercialization partnership aims to offer more business opportunities for startups and small to medium-size firms working with undersea and naval technologies. •
