PROVIDENCE – For the first time in Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island’s history, one of its employees has received the prestigious “Making a Difference Award” from the national Association for Community Affiliated Plans.

The recipient, Providence resident Janette Conway, is a housing specialist on Neighborhood’s nursing home transition team. She supports Neighborhood’s members as they transition from long-term care facilities to independent living. Neighborhood reported that Conway goes above and beyond in her work connecting Neighborhood’s members to the social services vital to their independence. She tracks down members’ long-lost family members, advocates for them in court and listens compassionately to their challenges. ACAP’s judging panel found that Conway’s work and lifelong volunteerism put her “head and shoulders above” nominees from the 60 other ACAP-affiliated plans across the country.

ACAP is a Washington-based organization whose mission is to support and strengthen nonprofit “Safety Net” Health Plans, like Neighborhood, in their efforts to improve the health of at-risk populations.

“Janette is committed to making sure that people in her community have health care, housing and social services at the very moment they need them the most. That’s the essence of ACAP’s principles,” ACAP’s CEO Margaret A. Murray, said in the Neighborhood statement. “Advocating for the community is our Safety Net Health Plans’ secret sauce – and it’s something Janette lives 24/7. We’re delighted to recognize her with this award.”
