Neighborhood Health awarded highest accreditation

PROVIDENCE – Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island has been awarded an accreditation status of “excellent,” the highest possible level, from the National Committee for Quality Assurance, the health insurer announced on Jan. 27.
The quality review included on-site and off-site evaluations of more than 50 standards and performance measures. Neighborhood Health Plan received a perfect score on the standards part of the evaluation.
In addition to its latest “excellent” rating, NCQA has ranked Neighborhood as one of the top-10 Medicaid health plans in America every year since the inception of rankings in 2004.
“This external affirmation of our internal work with providers, partners and members helps to assure care is delivered in the right setting at the right time in a way that is sustainable, said Mark E. Reynolds, president and CEO of Neighborhood Health Plan of RI.
Ironically, Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee’s FY2013 budget proposal has proposed cutting Neighborhood’s budget by about 4 percent per patient per month in Medicaid funds, to save an estimated $14 million.
Neighborhood is currently looking at the proposed budget before it offers an official response.
“There are several elements that go into our rate-setting, so we will be working with the R.I. Department of Human Services to learn what trends they are seeing,” said Tom Boucher, spokesman for Neighborhood.
