CRANSTON – Nelipak Corp. recently acquired Tegrant Alloyd Brands of Puerto Rico Inc., a subsidiary of the thermoforming firm Sonoco Products Co., for an undisclosed sum.
The business will operate under the name of Nelipak Healthcare Packaging.
“We are thrilled to expand our global manufacturing footprint and gain greater access to the Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic health care markets with the acquisition of Tegrant Alloyd Brands of Puerto Rico,” Michael P. Kelly, president and CEO of Nelipak, which specializes in thermoformed medical packaging, said in a statement issued earlier this month.
“This acquisition enables us to better support our global customers since many of them have operations in Puerto Rico. Additionally, the Tegrant Alloyd Brands of Puerto Rico’s team and customer base complement our current capabilities,” he added.
According to information from Nelipak, the acquisition will broaden the company’s footprint in an important region for the company and its customers, allowing it to take advantage of growth opportunities in the broader Caribbean region.
A Nelipak spokeswoman said approximately 40 staff and management team members joined Nelipak following the purchase.
TABPR manufactures thermoformed rigid packaging primarily for the medical market for customers in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
Under the Nelipak Healthcare Packaging brand, TABPR will continue to develop its thermoformed packaging products and service capabilities for the health care market, Nelipak said.
