New England CPI rises 1.5 percent in June

BOSTON - The Consumer Price Index for was essentially unchanged in June in New England, rising 1.5 percent to 245.2 the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday.

Nationally over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 1.7 percent before seasonal adjustment.

The energy index fell 5.9 percent in New England in June, as the gasoline index dropped for the third consecutive month. The energy index’s decline was offset by increases in the indexes for food and all items less food and energy, according to the bureau.

The food index rose 2.8 percent from June 2011 to June 2012, 0.1 percentage point higher than the national change during that period.

New England’s housing index posted a 2.1 percent increase in June while the index for transportation dropped 0.6 percent.
