EAST PROVIDENCE – New England Emergency Medical Training, an EMT/paramedic training school, has been acquired by Carol Mansfield, CEO of three ambulance firms in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.

The Providence business was acquired for an undisclosed sum, according to a news release.

Mansfield is the CEO of Stat Ambulance Service Dartmouth, Stat/Southcoast EMS, Coastline EMS, STAT Emergency Medical Training and Coastline Educational Services. The five companies employ more than 200 workers.

Mark Haskell, president of corporate relations and government affairs for Stat/Southcoast EMS and Coastline EMS, said that the school will be incorporated under the Stat/Southcoast and Coastline umbrella, and that they plan to expand its offerings, looking to draw students from Massachusetts as well as Rhode Island.

Plans call for the establishment of an expanded location at 1970 Pawtucket Ave., in East Providence, near the Seekonk line, the release said.

He said, additionally, that they are considering adding courses, such as phlebotomy, to the training center curriculum. Presently, New England Emergency Medical Training prepares individuals for EMT (emergency medical technician) and paramedic examinations.

Under the present plan, the new owners will keep the existing staff but also will draw upon EMT and paramedic instructors affiliated with Stat, Stat/Southcoast and Coastline. New England Emergency Medical Training has 10 instructors.

Haskell said, “We are pleased to have the opportunity to expand our ability to train qualified EMTs, paramedics and other first responders.”
