New basketball court at The Providence Center

PROVIDENCE – A new basketball court to promote physical activity and wellness for the more than 60 students attending the special-education school run by The Providence Center opened on Nov. 28.
The court, which features a half-court design and an adjustable hoop, was made possible through donations from The Electric Boat Corp. Employees’ Community Services Association, Narragansett Improvement and The Billy Andrade-Brad Faxon Charities for Children.
“Supporting local organizations is one of the most important things we do at Electric Boat,” said company representative Paul Metro. “The Providence Center is one that we enjoy supporting the most.”
“Physical education is essential to helping children maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said Dale K. Klatzker, president and CEO of The Providence Center. “We’re grateful to our donors for helping to make this happen for our students.”
Over the past 20 years, The Providence Center school has helped more than 1,000 children ages 4-21 with behavioral difficulties gain the skills that they need to succeed in a traditional classroom. •
