Newport Antiques Show exhibit set to debut

NEWPORT – “Fifty Objects That Shaped Rhode Island History,” a Newport Antiques Show exhibit, runs from July 25 to 27.
The Newport and the Rhode Island historical societies partnered to present the exhibit. Held at the 2014 Newport Antiques Show at St. George’s School in Middletown, the exhibit will cover everything from geography to tolerance.
“The Rhode Island Historical Society is delighted and honored to join with the Newport Historical Society at the Newport Antique Show to present ‘50 Objects that Shaped Rhode Island History,’” said
C. Morgan Grefe, the Rhode Island Historical Society’s executive director. “Together we will tell the statewide story and bring our collections into conversation again—where they have always belonged!”
Admission to the weekend antiques show, which includes the exhibit, is $15 per person or $20 for a three day pass.
In addition to the show, visitors can view the exhibit and attend three different lectures:
“Big History, Little State: 350 Years in 50 Objects,” will be presented by Kirsten Hammerstrom on July 25 at 11 a.m.
“Fruits of Our Labor: Industry, Immigration and Rhode Island Road to Riches,” will be presented by Grefe on July 26 at 1 p.m., and
“Vintage Cars and Automobile Racing in Newport, will be presented by Nicholas Schorsch, CEO of American Realty Capital, the show’s presenting sponsor, on July 26 at 11 a.m.
