Newport Opera House continues restoration efforts

NEWPORT – The next phase of the Newport Opera House Theater and Performing Arts Center’s restoration began on Nov. 21 with the installation of four, more-than-35-foot-long structural steel columns and beams weighing 5 tons each.
The four beams will provide structural support for a glassed-in atrium, rooftop terrace and landscaped gardens.
To-date, in keeping with the historic restoration of the building, the structure’s old annex has been removed, abatement work completed, a new foundation has been poured for steel columns and the stage floors and staircases were removed.
