NEWPORT – With the Mexican polo team as guests of honor, Newport Polo will host Gala La Bamba on Aug. 4 at Rosecliff. Proceeds from the 2017 International Polo Charity Ball Auction will support ongoing renovations at the Newport Opera House Theater & Performing Arts Center.
Alison Vareika, chair of the Opera House board of directors, said she was “honored” the venue was chosen as this year’s beneficiary.
“We thank you for supporting the mission of the Newport Opera House Theater & Performing Arts Center, and for recognizing the value that this restored historic theater, with its dynamic program of year-round live performances, will bring to the greater Newport community and its visitors,” she said.
Gala La Bamba will include a meet and greet session with the Mexican team then hors d’oeuvres and specialty cocktails created by the Cocktail Guru followed by a silent auction, gourmet dinner and live auction.
The weekend’s festivities will continue Saturday evening with a match between the Mexican and U.S. teams as part of the Newport International Polo Series at 5 p.m., ending with a New England lobster bake.
The annual social event draws nearly 400 guests. Gala tickets are now available.
