NEWPORT – Celebrating its 10th year, Newport Restaurant Week, which will be held Nov. 6-15, is featuring a new partnership this year with Rhode Island Seafood.
Rhode Island Seafood, whose seal means that a menu item’s seafood is from Rhode Island waters, is a collaborative formed by the state Department of Environmental Management to support local fishermen and small businesses, and to increase awareness and consumption by the public of locally fished species.
“We are thrilled that Newport Restaurant Week will feature delicious, locally sourced seafood that bears the R.I. Seafood seal,” DEM Director Janet L. Coit said in a statement.
“Rhode Islanders take great pride in their agricultural and fishing heritage; honoring this tradition, supporting local fishermen and growing our food economy is what R.I. Seafood is all about. We hope people will take advantage of this opportunity to experience tasty, fresh selections such as calamari, skate and monkfish, and continue to support their R.I. Seafood brand,” Coit said.
Evan Smith, president and CEO of Discover Newport, which organizes the event, said Newport Restaurant Week has been “a true tour de force for our destination.”
“We’ve just experienced one of the most successful summer travel seasons in recent history and a key metric we apply in that assessment is the city of Newport’s meals and beverage tax. As we embrace the shoulder season, Newport Restaurant Week has become a critical event that unequivocally moves that dial in the right direction,” Smith said.
Special prix-fixe prices, $16 for three-course lunches and $35 for three-course dinners, will be offered during restaurant week, which is held in Newport and Bristol County.
“For us new kids on the block, Newport Restaurant Week is an opportunity to introduce our seasonally inspired and locally sourced comfort food to folks outside of the East Bay,” Eli Dunn, owner and chef at Eli’s Kitchen in Warren said.
In addition to Eli’s Kitchen, first-time participants include Crü Café and Saltwater at the Newport Harbor Hotel & Marina, both in Newport; Roberto’s Italian Restaurant in Bristol; Billy’s in Barrington; and Metacom Kitchen in Warren.

Newport Restaurant Week, established in 2006, is sponsored by Kenwood Vineyards, OpenTable.com, Rhode Island Seafood, Samuel Adams and Discover Newport. It became a biannual event in 2008, with early spring being the other production of the event.
