Newport and Bristol County CVB rebrand to ‘Discover Newport’

The Newport and Bristol County Convention and Visitors Bureau has rebranded to “Discover Newport,” with a new logo and tagline to match.

It is a move that fits with a national trend toward streamlining convention and visitor bureaus to more easily marketable destinations.

“I am really excited about the name and about what it does to reflect our identity,” said Evan Smith, Discover Newport president and CEO. “Our mission remains the same.”

The organization will work with the tagline “Discover Newport: Nine Coastal Towns, One Big Experience.”

Smith said the rebranding effort began last summer.

Discover Newport promotes Barrington, Bristol, Jamestown, Little Compton, Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Tiverton and Warren.

Its counterpart, the Providence Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau, applauded Newport’s work but will not be making a similar move anytime soon, said Kristen Adamo, vice president of marketing and communications.

Among convention and visitor bureaus that have similarly rebranded are Visit Orlando, formerly the Orlando/Orange County CVB, in December 2010, and the San Francisco Travel Association, which was the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau until January 2011.
