NEWPORT – Tourists headed to Newport to enjoy the annual Newport Folk Festival will be visiting the most expensive summer getaway in the United States, according to a survey released Wednesday.

Cheaphotels.org, a Paris-based hotel booking website, compared the average rates of the cheapest available double room in every destination in the U.S. with a minimum of ten hotels.
Newport’s average room rate is $319 between June through Aug., coming in significantly higher than the runners up: coastal California’s Santa Monica and Napa Valley’s Calistoga.

In comparison, visitors to these second- and third-place finishers will have to pay at least $287 and $285 respectively for a double room this summer.

Daniel Berger, one of three employees who conducted the survey, said he thought the results would have looked different had they included the winter months. “New York City is very expensive in September, October,” he added.
