Food fight
Dine out for life on April 30 at any participating restaurant around Rhode Island to benefit AIDS Project RI. This event is a part of a national movement, where participating restaurants donate 25-50 percent (or a flat amount) of each dining check to AIDS service organizations. Although the surge of foot traffic boosts the total funds raised, Dining Out for Life also draws national attention to the 1.2 million people living in the U.S. with AIDS. Proceeds will benefit research, treatment and education, as well as anonymous testing. More than 30 Rhode Island restaurants are participating, including: Bistro 22, Blaze East Side, the Burrito Co., CAV, Despina’s Café, Easy Entertaining, Federal Hill Pizza, India and Simone’s. For more information, call (401) 831-5522 or visit www.aidsprojectri.org.

A greener way
The Woonasquatucket River Council will host its annual greenway cleanup on April 25, starting at 9 a.m. at the Hillside Ave. bike path access in Johnston. Hundreds of volunteers will show up to spruce up the greenway by painting benches and fences, weeding, pulling debris from in/near the river and more. Those who aren’t willing to get down and dirty are welcome to write letters in support of expanding the bike path into Smithfield. The WRWC ultimately wants to create a statewide greenway loop that links up with the Blackstone River bike path. Cost: Free (donations appreciated), pre-registrants will receive a free t-shirt.
