Nonprofit funding available through United Way Olneyville Community Fund

PROVIDENCE – United Way of Rhode Island has made $90,000 in grants available for nonprofit organizations through the release of a request for proposals for the organization’s Olneyville Community Fund. Grants will be awarded to organizations located in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence, or to programs or projects that located in or designed to serve that community. The deadline to apply for funding is April 13 by 3 p.m.
The Olneyville Community Fund was established to expand community partnerships that address the needs of local residents and help strengthen the Olneyville community with efforts that focus on financial stability, health and safety, housing, support services, workforce development and youth development.
Grant awards are to be utilized between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017. Nonprofit organizations may submit no more than two applications, and all applications must respond to one of the following funds of the Olneyville Community Fund:

  • Capital Projects Fund: $12,000 (Maximum request: $4,000) Proposals will be accepted that support time-limited efforts to improve physical space, equipment or environment of the organization, limited to improvements to public spaces in Olneyville or improvements needed to advance programs serving the Olneyville community.
  • Capacity Building Fund: $18,000 (Maximum request: $6,000) Proposals to support ongoing supports to increase organizational capacity, including strategic planning costs, financial reviews, consultant fees or professional development for staff. Capacity Building proposals must support organizational efforts targeted to Olneyville. Organizations located outside of Olneyville are only eligible for Capacity Building funds if it increases the organization’s capacity to serve the Olneyville community specifically.

Program Delivery Fund: $60,000 (Maximum request: $15,000) Funds are available for proposals that support direct-service programming offered in the Olneyville community or to Olneyville residents only.

In order to be eligible for grant consideration, organizations must have a letter determining 501c (3) status from the IRS or have a fiscal agent with 501c (301) status, and meet the financial documentation and organizational criteria outlined by United Way. Grant applications will be reviewed by the Olneyville Community Fund Review Committee, which is composed of local civic, business and community leaders, members of the United Way Community Investment Committee and UWRI staff. Funding decisions will be announced by May 25, 2016, and successful applicants will receive funding on July 1, 2016.
