Nonprofits face June 30 deadline for annual reports

Posted:

PROVIDENCE – The deadline for Rhode Island’s 7,900-plus nonprofits to file annual reports with the state is approaching, according to Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis.

Mollis is reminding the state’s charities, hospitals and other nonprofits that that they must submit reports by the end of June, or face fines and penalties such as the revocation of a certificate of incorporation or certificate of authority.

Nonprofits may file in person on weekdays, or by mail or online. “We added the functionality to make it easier for them to do business with us. Our virtual office is open 24/7, so nonprofits can file whenever it is convenient,” said Mollis in prepared remarks. “The online option also lowers our costs and gives the public access to the reports faster.”

Nonprofits filing online will have until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, June 30, and can do so by visiting www.sos.ri.gov and accessing the appropriate link.

In addition, nonprofits can still file by mail or in person at the Secretary of State’s Corporations Division, 148 West River St., Providence, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For-profit corporations and limited liability companies are also required to file annual reports with the Secretary of State’s office, though those reports have separate deadlines.
