MIDDLETOWN – An enlarged and redesigned Lucy’s Hearth headquarters opened last week, a project designed by Northeast Collaborative Architects.
Lucy’s Hearth is a nonprofit organization that provides housing and human services to homeless women and children in Newport County.
The $4.4 million facility was completed in early October, and features 14 one-bedroom units with private bathrooms, two larger bedroom suites for families, also with private bathrooms, and a modernized and energy-efficient kitchen.
In other adaptations, the facility now includes a large, multipurpose room and age-specific play rooms, including for teens.
The outdoor campus features two age-specific playgrounds, a nature walk and a community garden.
Project architects were Dan Kwasniewski and Glenn Gardiner.
Lucy’s Hearth is an enhanced shelter, a designation that means it can accept families for three to six months, as they transition into permanent housing.
