The Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce raised $12,000 for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank during its annual holiday open house.
The Chamber raised $3,500 from ticket sales from more than 350 guests and 21 exhibitors and Twin River presented a check for $2,500. The contribution was then doubled through the End Hunger Challenge fund, which brought the total donation to $12,000.
The contribution will allow the food bank to supply families with low incomes with more than 18 tons (or 36,000 pounds) of food.
John C. Gregory, president and CEO of the Chamber, presented the award with Kim Ward, director of public and community affairs at Twin River, to Andrew R. Schiff, CEO of the R.I. Community Food Bank. •
