Northern R.I. Chamber of Commerce joins energy challenge

The Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce is the first Chamber of Commerce to join the “Rhode Island Energy: Find Your Four!” initiative.
Through the initiative, the chamber is encouraging its member businesses to participate in the challenge and find four ways to reduce energy at work and home.
The chamber will work with National Grid and the nonprofit SmartPower. It has committed to sign up 10 percent of its members to take the challenge, so it can be named a “Rhode Island Energy Champion.”

The chamber’s network extends throughout Rhode Island and into Massachusetts, mainly focusing on the communities of Burrillville, Central Falls, Cumberland, Lincoln, Pawtucket, Smithfield, North Smithfield and Woonsocket.
“We are committed to helping our members reduce energy waste whether it be in their companies or across our community,” John C. Gregory, chamber president/CEO, said in a statement.
“Wasting energy hurts our economy and it hurts our environment. There are simple things every employer and resident can do to reduce their energy use at home and at work, and we are going to help our members understand that by taking part in the Rhode Island Energy Challenge,” he said.

Said Timothy F. Horan, president of National Grid in Rhode Island, “We have had great participation from employers across the state, and having a Chamber of Commerce support this energy challenge helps to strengthen the message that saving energy is just good business.”

Recent Rhode Island Energy Champions include North Providence, Central Falls, Newport, Warwick, North Smithfield, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Rhode Island Interfaith Power & Light. The city of Providence will finish its Find Your Four! engagement in January.
Residents interested in participating in the energy challenge can sign up at www.FindYourFour.com.
