PROVIDENCE – Rep. Joseph McNamara, D-Warwick, and Sen. Joshua Miller, D-Cranston, were presented with 2013 Legislative Awards by the Rhode Island State Nurses Association on May 8, as part of activities celebrating National Nursing Week.
In 2013, Miller and McNamara sponsored and championed a bill designed to streamline licensure, certification and education processes for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, such as anesthesiology registered nurses and other specialized nurses. If enacted, the bill, which has passed the Senate, would make Rhode Island the 15th state to increase patients’ access to care by removing barriers that often make it difficult for APRNs to practice.
The Rhode Island State Nurses Association, a constituent member of the American Nurses Association, is dedicated to the promotion, advancement and protection of nursing. •
