WESTERLY – Travel + Leisure magazine has named Rhode Island’s Ocean House at Watch Hill the top-ranked resort hotel in the continental U.S., as well as the No. 5 hotel worldwide in the 2014 World’s Best Awards.
The Ocean House, which was rebuilt and reopened in spring 2010, is the youngest hotel ever to achieve the top honor in the continental U.S. ranking, which is based on traveler votes. In 2013, the Ocean House earned the No. 10 spot on the list.
The global ranking also represented a significant upward climb for the Ocean House, which placed at No. 95 internationally in 2013.
“We are overjoyed to learn that Ocean House is receiving this tremendous honor,” said Daniel Hostettler, president and group managing director of Ocean House Management LLC. “This accolade is especially rewarding as it is voted on by travelers themselves, and this means that those who have visited our hotel truly see Ocean House as a special place and consider us to be the best in the nation, and even world.”
Earlier this year, the Ocean House was awarded its fourth consecutive AAA Five Diamond rating, the only Rhode Island establishment to receive such recognition. In 2013, the Ocean House became Rhode Island’s first Forbes Five-Star hotel.
“Being selected as the best hotel in the continental United States is both gratifying and humbling, as we know the expectations of our guests will rise even higher,” said Hostettler. “I am sure our committed team will rise to the occasion and achieve even greater levels of success.”
