Ocean House recognized by Travel + Leisure as top hotel

WESTERLY – The Ocean House, in Westerly’s Watch Hill neighborhood, has been named to Travel + Leisure’s 2015 list of the top 500 hotels in the world.
The Ocean House is the only Rhode Island hotel to make the list.
Its description on Travel + Leisure’s website states that it was built in 1868 on a “windswept bluff with views of the Atlantic” and that it once catered to “moneyed aristocrats.” It states that it is as “grand as ever,” thanks to a $146 million reconstruction and features croquet lawns in a “nod to old-world glamour,” as well as 49 guest rooms and 22 private villas.
The list was based on input from Travel + Leisure readers. Respondents were asked to rate hotels based on rooms, location, service, restaurants and value.
The hotel, which was rebuilt and reopened in spring 2010, has been picking up accolades all year. Its restaurant – Seasons – has been recognized by Open Table, an online dining reservation website, as one of the best brunch restaurants in America.

Ocean House, Seasons and the hotel’s Oh! spa also received five-star ratings from Forbes Travel Guide, the highest available.
And, AAA gave the Ocean House its highest five-diamond rating.
