Online training offered to curb opioid abuse

BOSTON – Boston University School of Medicine is offering free online training to doctors and other prescription-drug prescribers to help them balance the benefits and risks of prescribing opioid pain relievers.
The hope is that throughout the nation, especially in areas such as Rhode Island that have been particularly hard-hit by opioid overdoses resulting in death, an increase in education among prescribers will lead to a decrease in opioid abuse.
The training is part of the university’s Safe and Competent Opioid Prescribing Education of Pain program.
Prescribers can access the training anytime and anywhere via www.scopeofpain.com, and it is certified for continuing medical education, continuing nursing education and American Academy of Family Practitioners credits. •
