PROVIDENCE – Operation Homefront, the national nonprofit that provides emergency financial and other assistance to military families and Wounded Warriors, will be collecting for its annual Back-to-School Brigade program at several Dollar Tree stores throughout the state.
Donated school supplies will be distributed to children of service members at the beginning of the 2012 academic year. This is the sixth annual campaign. Monetary donations also are accepted and last year the program raised over $2 million in financial aid and school supplies nationwide and provided 30,000 backpacks to fill with school supplies for children of military service members.
“Military families, especially those in the lower and mid-grade enlisted ranks, can see a real money crunch at back-to-school time,” said Jim Knotts, president and CEO of Operation Homefront. “People in the community who want to say thank you to military families can make a real contribution by being part of the Back-to-School Brigade program.”
Residents can purchase school supplies at Dollar Tree stores on Killingly Street in Providence, at Cranston Parkade in Cranston, and at the North Providence Market Place.
