WOONSOCKET – CVS Health Corp. is joining with OptumRx to offer employers a new pharmacy network solution designed to improve health for customers and provide more convenience and value, the companies announced in a news release on Tuesday.
OptumRx, UnitedHealth Group’s pharmacy care services business, manages more than 1 billion prescriptions annually. CVS Pharmacy, CVS Health’s retail division, has more than 9,600 retail pharmacies across the nation.
“We are very pleased to announce that we will be partnering with OptumRx, which will allow us to explore innovative ways of helping patients on their path to better health,” Helena B. Foulkes, president of CVS Pharmacy, said in prepared remarks. “This strategic relationship will enhance patients’ access to care, lower costs and improve health outcomes through our unmatched clinical capabilities delivered by our 27,000 retail pharmacists nationwide.”

Through the partnership, eligible OptumRx members will have the option to fill 90-day prescriptions at prices equal to home delivery copay levels at CVS locations nationwide or through OptumRx home delivery starting July 1. In addition, consumer engagement and health outcomes will be improved through the combination of OptumRx’s pharmacy and clinical solutions with CVS Pharmacy’s in-store health and wellness capabilities, the release said.
The partnership also will enable the companies to leverage a shared pharmacy platform to develop new pharmacy and health solutions for clients and consumers.

“Our new strategic relationship with CVS Pharmacy will benefit our clients and consumers by improving access to medications, driving better health outcomes and reducing costs,” Mark Thierer, CEO of OptumRx, said in a statement. “By deepening our relationship, we can develop innovations that further modernize and enhance pharmacy care.”
