Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Rolf Langeland joins Lifespan Physician Group

NEWPORT – The Lifespan Physician Group announced that Dr. Rolf Langeland joined Newport Orthopedics, an LPG practice that is part of the Orthopedics Institute at Rhode Island and The Miriam and Newport hospitals, which are part of the Lifespan system. As a member of the Newport Hospital medical staff, he will provide an array of orthopedic surgical services and is accepting new patients.

After earning his medical degree and training in orthopedic surgery from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, he continued his subspecialty training in sports medicine and joint-replacement fellowship training at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. Before joining Newport Orthopedics, he practiced for 20 years with Orthopedic Specialty Group in Connecticut, specializing in sports medicine and reconstructive joint and trauma surgery.

“Dr. Langeland brings decades of surgical experience and specialized skills in shoulder and other joint replacement, as well as sports medicine, to the Newport community,” Crista F. Durand, Newport Hospital president, said in a statement.

Langeland has particular expertise in arthroscopic joint restoration of the upper and lower extremities, trauma reconstruction and reconstructive joint replacement, according to LPG.

“What I enjoy most is keeping people active and healthy,” Langeland said in the statement. “I was drawn to orthopedic surgery because of my love of sports and an active lifestyle, and I have dedicated my professional career to restoring athletes and non-athletes to their highest level of physical activity and fitness.”

The orthopedic surgeons at Newport Orthopedics provide diagnostic, medical and surgical treatment for injuries and disorders of the joints and upper and lower limbs.

Langeland’s LPG office is located in the Borden Carey building, 19 Friendship St., Newport.
