NORTH KINGSTOWN – Oshean Inc., the consortium of nonprofits formed to foster the development of communications infrastructure in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts, has named David C. Marble as its new president and CEO, the organization announced Tuesday.

“We are very pleased that David is joining our team as president and CEO,” Susan Cerrone Abely, chairman of the Oshean board, said in a statement. “David has worked with OSHEAN in the past as a business partner. He not only understands our mission, and our challenges, he also brings a keen perspective and innovative vision that will move us forward as we continue creating and expanding the cyber-infrastructure that is crucial to our region’s growth.”

Marble, who started his position two weeks ago, joined Oshean with more than 30 years of business and technical experience in technology companies, ranging from being chief operating officer for Tazz Networks to co-founder of the Association for Authentic, Experiential and Evidence-Based Learning.

“I am very pleased to be joining a team that has accomplished so much to date and has such an important charter ahead.” Marble, a lifelong Rhode Islander, said in prepared remarks.

Oshean has established itself as “a national leader” in developing and implementing fiber-optic solutions for community-based institutions, according to a release. The 339-mile fiber-optic Beacon 2.0 network is increasing broadband capacity for Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass., in schools, libraries, universities, community colleges, hospitals and government agencies.

“The Beacon 2.0 fiber backbone and the applications which ride on top represent an opportunity for our membership to gain economic efficiencies while fostering innovative collaborations and application development,” said Marble.
