PBN announces Business Excellence winners

Providence Business News has selected seven organizations and two individuals for their excellence, leadership and community involvement for its 11th annual Business Excellence Awards.

PROVIDENCE – Providence Business News has selected seven organizations and two individuals for their excellence, leadership and community involvement for its 11th annual Business Excellence Awards, one of the region’s longest-running and best-known business recognition programs.

Arnold “Buff” Chace, president of Cornish Associates, will be recognized for his business leadership.

Chace’s nomination to the BEA highlights his 20-year efforts to revitalize downtown Providence, especially the “re-visioning of Kennedy Plaza as a great public space for everyone in Providence.”

Joseph MarcAurele, chairman, president and CEO of Washington Trust, will be recognized for his corporate citizenship for his 40-year commitment to the local community.

MarcAurele has served on a number of boards, including the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council and the Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program.

“He is a down-to-earth gentleman who inspires people at all levels to do what’s right […] and help in any way… whether it’s with time, talent or money,” his BEA nomination said while highlighting his charitable donations and volunteer efforts.

Other winners include:

  • Excellence at a Large Company: KVH Industries.
  • Excellence at a Mid-size Company: Alex and Ani.
  • Excellence at a Small Company: A2B Tracking.
  • Community Involvement: GTECH Corp.
  • Entrepreneurship: ChartWise Medical Systems.
  • Excellence at a Nonprofit Social Service Agency: Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island.
  • Excellence at a Not-for-Profit: The College Crusade of Rhode Island.

    The awards ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Providence Downtown Marriott at 1 Orms St.

    John Bowen, chancellor of Johnson & Wales University, will be the keynote speaker; Gene Valicenti, anchor for WJAR-TV NBC 10, will be the master of ceremonies.
