PROVIDENCE – Providence Business News has selected the winners of its second annual Chief Financial Officer Awards program, honoring 11 individuals for their fiscal savvy.

The winner of the lifetime achievement award is Anthony Bliss, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Family Service of Rhode Island.

Bliss is credited with several of the agency’s milestones, including stewarding the reverse of a million-dollar agency deficit to a $300,000 surplus in 2011, according to his nomination form.

Lucas Lussier, of the Met School, was also recognized as a Rising Star. His nominator, Co-director of The Met School Dennis Littky, noted that Lussier worked with staff to educate and make them comfortable with new R.I. Department of Education reforms related to the Uniform Chart of Accounts and the Rhode Island Education Funding Formula.

“As a results of Lucas’ actions, the Met was the first of the three state-funded public schools to successfully submit completed [UCOA] financials to RIDE,” Littky wrote.

  • Mid-size private company: Chris Burns, Andera
  • Small private company: Michael Alviano, New England Construction
  • Nonprofit social service agency: Michael Jenkinson, Rhode Island Foundation
  • Nonprofit (others):Mary “Mamie” Wakefield, Lifespan
