PBN honors local business women

PROVIDENCE – Providence Business News has selected 14 women to be honored in the second part of the newspaper’s year-long initiative recognizing women in the Rhode Island business community.

The winners of the fourth annual Business Women Awards program will be honored at a luncheon from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on May 5 at the Providence Marriott Downtown.

The 12 women who are featured on a monthly basis in the Business Women section of the newspaper also will be recognized for their career success.

Winning an award for career achievement will be Trudy Coxe, CEO and executive director of the Preservation Society of Newport County (Newport Mansions), who, during her 13-year tenure at the organization has seen it grow to become one of Rhode Island’s largest cultural tourism destinations and a regional economic engine. Prior to her role at Newport Mansions, Coxe was the Secretary of Environmental Affairs for Massachusetts from 1993 to 1998, director of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management and the executive director of Save The Bay.

Mary Jo Kaplan, president of Kaplan Consulting LLC, will be recognized for her role as a mentor to business women. Kaplan founded her firm in 2000 and she does extensive pro bono consulting and mentoring of female executives. She also mentors women through the Brown University program in social entrepreneurship, Launch Pad, Social Venture Partners of Rhode Island and as a member of the board at The Miriam Hospital.

  • Professional Services – Industry Leader: Jill H. Andy, senior vice president, human resources, Amica Mutual Insurance Co.
  • Professional Services – Woman to Watch: Renee C. Aloisio, director of internal operations, Lefkowitz, Garfinkel, Champi & DeRienzo PC
  • Social Services – Industry Leader: Anne M. Nolan, president, Crossroads Rhode Island
  • Social Services – Woman to Watch: Kelly Ramirez, executive director, Social Venture Partners Rhode Island
  • Technical Services – Industry Leader: Denice Spero, co-director, Institute for Immunology & Informatics
