PBN names Business Excellence winners


PROVIDENCE – Providence Business News has selected six organizations and three individuals for their excellence, leadership and community involvement for its 12th annual Business Excellence Awards, one of the region’s longest-running and best-known business recognition programs.

Tim Hebert, CEO of Atrion Networking Corp., will be recognized for his business leadership. Hebert, who joined the Atrion team in 1989, has helped the company see a 119 percent revenue growth in the last five years.

Robert A. Rabiner, founder of IlluminOss Medical Inc. will be honored for his entrepreneurship. Rabiner founded the medical device company in 2007 in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons at Rhode Island Hospital.

The company has already treated and implanted 200 patients with its minimally invasive system for stabilizing and repairing bone fractures with zero complications.

Robert Padula, chairman of Gencorp Insurance, will be recognized for his corporate citizenship and more than 40-years of commitment to the local community.

During his years of community involvement, Padula has donated to multiple causes including the R.I. Public Television, Care New England and Butler Hospital. He also served on the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Board.

“I have observed that Bob inspires others by example and through the intensity of his commitment to his endeavors. He donates not only money, but his time and efforts,” his BEA nomination said while highlighting his charitable donations and volunteer efforts.

Other winners include:

  • Excellence at a Large Company: Webster Bank

  • Excellence at a Mid-size Company: Elite Physical Therapy

  • Excellence at a Small Company: Providence Yarn Co.

  • Community Involvement: Amgen Inc.

  • Excellence at a Social Service Agency: Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State

  • Excellence at a Nonprofit: Community Preparatory School

The awards ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Providence Downtown Marriott at 1 Orms St.

Neil Steinberg, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation will be the keynote speaker and Gene Valicenti, anchor for WJAR-TV NBC 10, will be the master of ceremonies.

The 2012 Business Excellence Awards competition is presented by Bank Rhode Island, and it is produced in partnership with Bryant University; Cox Business; LGC&D P.C., Champi & DeRienzo P.C.; Partridge Snow & Hahn LLP; Tufts Health Plan and University Medicine.
