PROVIDENCE – Providence Business News is accepting nominations for its 2009 Business Women awards program.

This is the second year for the recognition program, which identifies women who are leaders in their industries as well as those who are women to watch. A single winner will be honored for overall career achievement, and a final honoree will be recognized for being a strong mentor to business women. (READ MORE)

The 12 honorees will be selected from five industry categories:

• Professional Services (Law, Health Care, Insurance and Real Estate)
• Financial Services (Banking, Accounting and Financial Advisers)
• Creative Services (Hospitality, Marketing, Advertising and the Arts)
• Social Services (Education, Nonprofits and Government)
• Technical Services (Construction, Engineering, Manufacturing, Information Technology, Architecture and Design)

The deadline for submitting nominations and profiles is Wednesday, April 15.

Winners will be celebrated at an awards luncheon, Thursday, May 21, at the Providence Marriott and featured in a PBN special section on May 25. Women who have been profiled in the PBN’s monthly Business Women feature also will be honored at the event.

Last year’s honorees included Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island President and CEO Constance A. Howes, who was recongized for career achievement (READ MORE) and Susan Colantuono, CEO of Leading Women, who was recognized for mentorship to other women (READ MORE). Other honorees last year included Eileen Howard Dunn and Papatya Tankut, both CVS Caremark Corp. executives, Gilbane Inc. Vice President Diane Fasching; Kimball Hall, vice president and general manager for Amgen’s Rhode Island operations; Marie Langlois, managing director of Washington Trust Investors; Dr. Patricia Ryan Recupero, CEO of Butler Hospital; and Michelle Wilcox of Crossroads Rhode Island, among others.

The 2009 Business Women Awards program is presented by Bank Rhode Island, and sponsored by Cox Business; Lefkowitz, Garfinkel, Champi and DeRienzo; and Partridge Snow & Hahn.
