PCL hosts Brain In Play book launch

PROVIDENCE – The Providence Community Library is hosting the Brain In Play Nonprofit Foundation’s national launch of the foundation’s book, “Winning the War Against Concussions In Youth Sports.”
On Wednesday, April 29, at 5:45 p.m., the authors present their concussion prevention and healing system for athletes under 21 at Knight Library, 275 Elmwood Ave., joined by a concussed New England Patriot NFL veteran.
Written primarily for players, parents and coaches, the book’s mission is to save young brains and youth sports, especially the high risk sports of soccer, hockey, football lacrosse and others, while also improving athletic and academic performance.
The book’s launch comes on the heels of NFL star rookie Chris Borland’s “healthy”
retirement in March 2015 to avoid concussive brain damage (forfeiting millions of dollars), book author Dr. Alan Ashare’s recent appearance on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” TV Show to educate the nation that helmets do not significantly reduce concussions (but do prevent skull fractures), the on-field death of 25-year-old rugby star Nick Tooth on April 18, and the legal suit brought against the Illinois High School Sports League over concussions.
A book signing follows the presentation, with all proceeds going to Brain In Play’s
nonprofit foundation. Paperback and Kindle versions are available at www.BrainInPlay.org.
The authors include clinician scientists and former hospital executive officers Bill and Katharine White, cofounders of Brain In Play International / Brain In Play Foundation, and Ashare of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and Tufts Medical School – a youth sports head injury physician safety advocate.
The Brain In Play Foundation, a Rhode Island based nonprofit, will also spread awareness about their just published solution-book with concussion prevention and healing dance challenges spread by social media.
