PPAC announces arts scholarships for 26 R.I. students

PROVIDENCE – Twenty-six Rhode Island students, aged 11-14, have been awarded scholarships to attend local summer arts education programs this summer.

The Arts Scholarships 2011, sponsored by Textron Inc. with support from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and the PPAC Annual Fund Donors, will be awarded during a ceremony at the Providence Performing Arts Center on May 9, 4:30-6:00 p.m. Scholarships are a maximum of $500.

The scholarship program first began in 1996 by PPAC’s Community Outreach Committee; 377 scholarships will have been awarded, including the ones on May 9.

An additional scholarship, the Keri Anne O’Donnell Scholarship, will be awarded to Kaitlynn Slattery of Warwick, who will attend Camp Broadway this summer.

  • Emma Joy Fitzelle-Jones, The Compass School – Kingston.

  • Olivia Frangos, Western Hills Middle School – Cranston.

  • Lydiann Hernandez, Governor Christopher DelSesto Middle School – Providence.

  • Breanna Howard, Esek Hopkins Middle School – Providence.

  • Mariah Johnson, The Compass School – Kingston.

  • Olivia Kaczmarzyk, St. Peter School – Warwick.
