PPAC ranks 23 out of top 100 theater venues

PROVIDENCE – The Providence Performing Arts Center ranked 23 out of 100 in entertainment industry trade Pollstar Magazine’s 2012 mid-year rankings of the top 100 theater venues worldwide.

The ranking, which is based on ticket sales, included major market theaters in countries such as Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Germany.

PPAC, a 3,100 seat venue, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The theater presents a full roster of touring Broadway theatricals year-round and in recent years has been the venue of choice for the opening of multiple national tours, according to a release.

“We are extremely pleased that PPAC is ranked 23 among top venues in the world – this result demonstrates that Rhode Island is a great theatre and entertainment market,” PPAC President J.L. Singleton said in a statement.
